What is smuttynose island?

Smuttynose Island is a small island located off the coast of Rye, New Hampshire in the United States. It is part of the Isles of Shoals archipelago, a group of nine islands located about 6 miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine.

Smuttynose Island is perhaps best known for the infamous 1873 murders that occurred there. Two Norwegian immigrants, Louis Wagner and his alleged accomplice, murdered two women, Anethe and Karen Christensen, who were living on the island at the time. The case became a sensation and inspired books, plays, and even a ballet.

Today, Smuttynose Island is privately owned and is not open to the public. The island is largely uninhabited, with only a few seasonal homes and buildings remaining. It is known for its rugged beauty, with rocky shores, sandy beaches, and a variety of wildlife.

Smuttynose Island is also known for its connection to the brewing company, Smuttynose Brewing Company. The company was founded in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and named after the island. The company produces a variety of craft beers, including its popular IPA and Finestkind IPA.
